Florida may not have a tax holiday this year on hurricane supplies

For the first time since 2017, Florida will not have a tax holiday on hurricane supplies before the start of hurricane season.
This year’s Atlantic hurricane season is projected to be an above-average year for tropical cyclone activity.
Yet, Republican infighting on the state’s budget has delayed any potential tax holiday for critical hurricane supplies.
A Republican Florida Congresswoman told me today that “everything” is up for cuts this year, including the annual hurricane supplies tax holiday.
The state legislature reconvenes next week to continue work on the budget.
Florida’s base sales tax rate is 6%. The sales tax holiday for hurricane supplies, which includes everything from batteries to pet travel supplies, enables families living on a tight budget to make these necessary purchases at a reduced cost.
