Carlos G. Smith filed a lawsuit to compel the state to report COVID-19 data in the summer of 2021 — just as the Delta wave brought the highest case, hospitalization and deaths rates in the nation to Florida.
More than two years later, the state lost that lawsuit, with the judge issuing an order for the state to reimburse legal fees (upwards of $125,000), and to resume reporting to the standards I designed in 2020. They will have to continue reporting for the next three years.
I am now more than three years into my lawsuit against the state for retaliation after I refused to manipulate and post misleading information to the state’s public data systems that I managed.
I have already spent a large sum in legal fees fighting the state — nearly as much as Smith at this point. We are gearing up to begin depositions, but every deposition will cost us money - from $1,000 to $1,500 each.
