My five-year whistleblowing anniversary

Five years ago today, I got a call from my boss telling me I was being offered a resignation package in lieu of termination.

I asked why.

“It is the decision of the deputy secretary,” the HR representative said.

It was a Monday and my first day off in months. I was on my way to see my parents who had lost their home a few weeks prior in a massive, EF-4 tornado.

Late Friday afternoon, just a few days prior, I had asked my boss about how I could file a whistleblower complaint about orders I received to publish false data about the COVID-19 pandemic.

I wrote a detailed piece about the public and legal war I’ve been fighting ever since then last year.

I haven’t shied away from the difficulties of being thrust into the public spotlight, or the risks to whistleblowers who challenge powerful men.

I’ve done my best to provide advice for those who face similar predicaments.
