Two-thirds of the country will experience unusually cold and snowy conditions in the coming days.

The area where I live (the DC-Maryland-Virginia area (also called DMV)) may get several years’ worth of snow this Saturday-Sunday.

If current projections of 18-20 inches materialize this weekend, this will be the worst blizzard for the area since 1996.

Since 1887, Washington, DC has only received more than 20” inches of snow seven times in January — and that’s the entire month at January, not all at once. If snowfall totals exceed 16.9” this weekend, the incoming snowstorm alone would make this one of the 10 snowiest Januarys on record.
