A police officer was killed protecting scientists and doctors at the CDC headquarters at Emory University yesterday.
The gunman, 30-year-old anti-vaxxer Patrick Joseph White, believed that he was sick and blamed the illness on the Covid-19 vaccine, a law enforcement official told CNN.
The first casualty was Officer David Rose (below), a 33-year-old Marine veteran turned DeKalb County lawman, who answered the call at 4:50 p.m.
In the frenzy of fear that followed, the gunman was found dead inside a nearby CVS across from the CDC. It’s still unclear whether his end was self-inflicted or the result of a police exchange—only that the wound was final.
In the aftermath, buildings bore the scars— at least four CDC structures were shot, their windows marred with bullet holes, as if the agency’s very knowledge was under attack. And yet, among those within the walls was a daycare, sheltering 92 small children. Miraculously, none were harmed.
