A letter for the courageous antiwar protesters
From someone who knows what it's like to face retaliation for speaking truth
Do not be swayed by the hatred, threats and violence being directed toward you and your movement.
At no point in American history have our esteemed institutions acted thoughtfully or wisely when confronted by the leaders of the next generation. Especially when the stakes are as high as they are today.
Your actions are perceived as threats by not only the universities and the government, but also to the religious fanatics who are holding these institutions hostage by way of threatening their most necessary resource: money.
That's true of both your colleges and your congressmen.
Zealots can become inflexible when they hold the power. They rule by silencing dissent and obfuscating the truth. We saw it in Vietnam, the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, and now the United States’ complicity in genocide in Gaza.
You have truth and morality on your side, and what is happening today in Gaza will go down as one of the most horrific international conflicts of the 21st century.
